Two chic French women of certain age featured in Chic & Slim Toujours: Aging Beautifully Like Those Chic French Women have recently been featured in the media.

The Affair Bettencourt

The trial of celebrity photographer François-Marie Banier accused of "abus de faiblesse,” taking advantage of the 92-year-old L’Oreal heiress Liliane Bettencourt for profit is nearing conclusion.

The Guardian has a good summary of the L’Affair Bettencourt as well as summation of the trial.

The New York Times coverage contains some details not in The Guardian report. The Times wrote:

The prosecutors said her advanced age, the beginnings of dementia and a daily medical regimen of 56 pills, including antidepressants, also invited exploitation.

Mrs. Bettencourt’s grandson Jean-Victor Meyers testified about visiting her in 2008, as the tension between mother and daughter about Mr. Banier intensified. “Your mother is attacking me because I gave a million to François-Marie,” he recalled Mrs. Bettencourt saying. Told it was actually €1 billion, she replied, “Are you sure?”

The charges by Liliane Bettencourt’s daughter against M. Banier and the investigation have been going on for years. Several years ago I read the account of a journalist who had asked M. Banier about the island in the Seychelles Liliane Bettencourt had given him. M. Banier said it was only a small island — and anyway the only thing on it were mosquitoes.

Pas importante.

In the photos with The Guardian article, you see several examples of the French wearing of scarves on both Bettencourt mother and daughter, as well as the two grandsons.

The news.com.au, an Australian site, has more photos of French scarf wearing in their Bettencourt Affair story.

The verdict of the trial is set for 28 May.

Christine Lagarde on The Daily Show

Christine Lagarde, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, appeared recently on The Daily Show. In her email alerting me to the appearance, Ann Leslie in New York wrote:

The interview was mostly about the Greece bailout, which was still pending at that time, but I'm sending you this video so you can see how fabulous she looks and what she's wearing. There are some good closeups of her face, and I could see her eye makeup (and see that she's sticking to the rule of "pick eyes or lips").
